Are you familiar with the concept of something “going viral?” It’s when a video, image, or story spreads quickly and widely on the internet through social networking sites, e-mail, etc. One of the best examples is the Ice Bucket Challenge. From July-August 2014, people recorded themselves pouring a large bucket of ice water over their head and then challenged others to do the same, all to raise awareness and money for ALS (aka Lou Gerhig’s disease). An estimated 17 million people participated in three months and donated $115 million to the ALS Association. Amazing! Equally amazing is how the Ice Bucket Challenge fell off everyone’s radar even faster than it rose to fame. This is true of most things that go viral. 2000 years ago, a different story went viral. It was the story of a man from a small country who audaciously claimed to be the Son of God and then claimed victory over death and sin. A group of unlikely people shared this story, and somehow it spread like a wildfire. This was no brief viral moment; this was a massive movement of the Holy Spirit on the people of God (the Church) into the world. You and I sit here today as benefactors of these people who saw the Holy Spirit unleashed in their lives as they were, in turn, unleashed into this world for the sake of Christ. I’m excited to jump into Acts 1-4 and examine the ingredients and attitudes that were present during this unleashing. As we study this, my prayer is that you will personally ask, “Lord, am I in a position for the Holy Spirit to be unleashed in my life so that you may unleash me for your sake into this world?” Yours for the Journey, Pastor Dave
