Here to There - Teach Us to Pray
“Lord, teach us to pray!” These words the disciples said to Jesus (Luke 11:1) are often my words. You’ve heard me say it multiple times: building a consistent disciplined prayer life is hard. Prayer rarely comes naturally when times are good. It always becomes passionate when we face crises and reversals. What would happen if we would focus on building a strong prayer foundation right now? We want this season of moving from Here to There in our prayer life to model good prayer habits. We need to align our prayer life with the Word. The Word never returns to us without fruit. In addition to studying the Word, we want each disciple to: • Develop a personal “War Room”—a place of private prayer. • Practice prayer outside the walls of the church. The church leaves the building to pray locally for our cities, our churches, our schools, and our government. • Engage in a 21 Days of Prayer exercise. • Practice praying Scripture with another person. • Build persistence in intercessory prayer. Something transformational happens when God’s people pray. Prayer does more than change our circumstances; it changes us in the midst of our circumstances. Let’s do this journey together. Through prayer, we will never again be the same.
