Hometown Growing Up: Palisade, Nebraska
Education: Palisade High School, Vennard College (1988), Bethel College- Master of Ministry (2001)
How long have you been at NMC?
What do you do at NMC?
Life Development, so my two key areas include: 1) Discipleship Strategies through Kid, Student, and Adult Ministries and 2) Leadership coaching/ development of ministry staff and interns. I also oversee Connection.
If you had a full day to yourself to do whatever you wanted, where would you go and what would you do?
Read, write, listen to music or good Bible teaching (preferably in a boat, in the middle of a lake, on a bright sunny day, with a pot of coffee and unlimited amount of fresh fruit).
If you could trade places with anybody on the NMC staff for a day, who would you want to trade with?
Dave Engbrecht…I want to crank up the fireplace, read a book in his private study and have access to his private bathroom all day long.
Where is your favorite place to “get away,” and what do you like to do when there?
Anywhere there is a beach, a warm body of water and sunshine in the low to mid eighties. Hawaii comes to mind.
When and how did you come to know the Lord as your savior?
I received Jesus into my heart as a young child (probably 4 or 5 years old). There were several additional significant commitments of growth in my Middle School and High School years.
When and how did God call you into ministry?
The summer after I graduated from High School, the Lord seemed to really grow in me a compassion for Middle School and High School students. I initially enrolled in Mid-America Nazarene College as an accounting/business major, however, circumstances led me to transfer to Vennard Bible College in University Park, Iowa that following January. It was there that committed to major in Bible and Christian Ministries.
What is the backstory to how you ended up at NMC?
I did a summer internship with NMC the summer before my junior year in college (1986). The internship helped me land a Youth Pastor position in Elkhart, Indiana after my college graduation. In June of 1992, Pastor Dave asked me to consider joining the NMC staff in the role as Student Ministries Pastor. After weeks of prayer, Kelly and came to the conclusion that NMC would be a great place to serve and grow in ministry. We began our time with NMC the first week in October 1992.
Where do you find the greatest joy in your job?
I’ve enjoyed being able to invest relationally into so many over the past several years. I love to see a person who is spiritually floundering become grounded and grow as they learn to walk daily by the Spirit.
