Over 20 years ago, NMC decided to start an internship program that would offer more than just hands-on experience. It would disciple and mentor college students and give them the space to seek the Lord and hear His voice. Over the years, God has brought clarity to students’ callings, grown them in their relationship with Him, and helped them experience His presence in new ways through our SOAR internship program.
This week, we are excited to welcome the 2018 SOAR class. Eight men and women will join the NMC family for the summer to serve in Adult Ministry, Student Ministries, KidMin, Next Gen, and Worship Ministry, and we are excited to see what God does. Meet our SOAR interns and new resident below.
Ana Pierson | Women’s Ministry and Worship Ministry
Ana was born in California but grew up in Fort Wayne where she attended Pathway Community Church. Throughout her life, she has been involved in music, whether it was with the children’s choir, show choir, gospel choir, or church worship teams. Even as a full-time student, Ana manages her own photography business and is busy on weekends shooting weddings and special events. You can experience a taste of the talent she will bring to the team by checking out her YouTube page here. Ana is a senior at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago where she studies women’s ministry. This summer, she will work with Women’s Ministry as well as Worship Ministry.
Asa Skaggs | Student Ministries
Asa is a familiar face to many in the NMC family. He is the son of Landis and Shawn Skaggs who serve on various Ministry Teams at the church. He enjoys playing and watching football and basketball, and during his time at Northwood High School, he was involved in musicals and show choir. He is headed into his junior year at Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, Illinois, where he studies youth ministry. This summer, he will work in Student Ministries.
Cody Felger | Student Ministries
Cody is in the middle of a seven-month internship with NMC that will finish with SOAR. Cody’s deep love of sports has allowed him to contribute to indianasportscoverage.com as well as produce a regular sports podcast. Although he’s a fan of most sports, he’s become well-versed specifically in the Indianapolis Colts. Cody graduated from Huntington College in Huntington, Indiana, earlier this month with a degree in youth ministry. For the last five months, Cody has worked with Student Ministries, and this summer, he willcontinue to invest in our students.
Jalen Yoder | KidMin
Jalen is another familiar face around NMC. He is the son of Jason and Rose Yoder, two people who are highly invested in various ministries in the church. Jalen grew up in Middlebury and is a graduate of Northridge High School. Currently, he studies ministry at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago and will be a junior. When asked to describe what he does in his free time, Jalen said, “My hobbies include horseback riding, snowboarding, and sparring, none of which I have done, but I assume I would like them if given the opportunity.” We are excited for the witty sense of humor Jalen will bring as he joins the KidMin team this summer.
James Darby | Adult Ministry
James (or Jimmy) lives near Jackson, Michigan, and ran track when he was in high school. His running career took him to Bethel College where he ran for two years. In his free time, he enjoys reading, lifting weights, and being with friends. Currently, James is finishing a five-year Master’s of Ministry program at Bethel. We are excited to have him at NMC for the next seven months as he completes the internship requirement for this program. James will serve in various roles with Adult Ministry.
Kristen Mitchell | Next Gen
Kristen grew up around Indianapolis and is the youngest of nine kids. She is an incredibly talented volleyball player and plays for Bethel’s team. She also enjoys reading, listening to music, having conversations, and hiking. Although she is still discerning how God wants to use her ministry degree in the future, she is passionate about investing in others. This year, she will enter her senior year at Bethel, and this summer, she will serve in a new area of ministry at NMC—Next Gen. Her focus will be our kids and youth as well as organizing and leading a sports camp.
Matthew Prochno | Adult Ministry Resident
Matthew grew up in Nappanee and is a graduate of Northwood High School. During high school, he worked with the facilities team at NMC and has served on various ministry teams around the church. Matthew is a recent graduate of Bethel where he received a degree in international studies. We’re excited to have him as a resident for the next two years as he works with Adult Ministry.
Tyler Gerig | Student Ministries
Tyler grew up in Fort Wayne and attended Woodburn Missionary Church. He loves playing just about every sport, but he played soccer and golf and even bowled in high school. Currently, he is finishing a five-year Master’s of Ministry degree at Bethel College. We are excited to have him on the team until December as he completes a seven-month internship. This summer, you will find him working with Student Ministries.
Zechariah Good | Worship Ministries
Zechariah grew up in Knox, Indiana, and is a pastor’s kid. Although he enjoys sports, his greater passion is music. One of his songs was showcased on a Bethel College album when he was just a freshman. Another of his songs will be featured on a new Bethel album that will be released in the coming months. Currently, Zechariah is a senior at Bethel, and this summer, he will serve with Worship Ministries.
